Visiting Kari at Rymaco Oy

Last week our group went to meet Kari from Rymaco Oy, a Finnish life jacket distributor in Espoo, Finland. Although Rymaco Oy used to also produce life jackets, it has since stopped and is only distributing products. Their primary market caters to local Baltic ferries and the Finnish military.

Kari gave the group a detailed run down of the different types of life jackets we might find during our trip to Lesvos, Greece. He also informed us about the materials, their different components, recycling methods and possible effects when exposed to different types of weather conditions and elements. One of our concerns is the state in which these life jackets might be right now, weathered and exposed to seawater.

We got to know a lot of important factors to help equip us with a better knowledge when dealing with them on site and any possible reuse options we might think of.

Over all a successful visit!

OUR CHALLENGES

& THE LIFT PROJECT

#1

The high influx of incoming refugees to Lesvos has made it a "hotspot" political and legislative volatility.

#2

Finding a more politically neutral way to support the current crisis with a resolution for the ecological hardship of Lesvos.

#3

We hope to learn first-hand on our trip about the big picture regarding what is going on, what is being done and what is still needed. This information is key to shaping our final project plan.
